CONTRIBUTIONS TO PROJECT
Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) and Strategic Environmental Assessment (SEA)
The principal task is to implement the EIA/SEA, i.e. to provide information on the site, design and size of the project, identify and assess the main effects which the project is likely to have on the environment i.e. on human beings, fauna and flora, soil, water, air, climate and the landscape, material assets and the cultural heritage as well as the inter-action between these factors. To minimize effects on the environment sustainability measures are designed in order to avoid, reduce and, if possible, remedy significant adverse effects
SWOT-analysis, biomass potentials and competition
An analysis on strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats (SWOT) will be performed to analyse the key internal and external factors that will determine the success of the SUPRA-BIO biorefinery concept and the most promising reference systems. The SWOT analysis will be supplemented by a separate investigation on the competition between different uses on the same type of biomass e. g. the competition for straw between biorefineries and conventional bioenergy pathways. In the light of this competition biomass potential will be analysed in order to depict possible sites for biorefineries.
EXPERIENCE AND FACILITIES
IUS is a consulting company (SME) specialised in environmental and spatial planning as well as landscape architecture, with more than 20 years of experience. In three locations in Germany IUS employs 25 persons, senior scientists (biology ecology), qualified consultants, skilled landscape architects and well-trained members of staff. Experienced in stock taking measures to provide data for environmental impact assessments the team is specialised in national an international EIA/SEA according to European regulations and directives as well as SWOT- and biomass potential analyses. IUS is a limited liability company and works for national and international clients such as private companies, local, regional and federal governmental authorities as well as NGOs. IUS is partner in other R&D projects in FP7, including BIOLYFE and BIOCORE.
