CONTRIBUTIONS TO PROJECT

Production of syngas in high pressure, high temperature entrained flow gasifier. The gasifier will be constructed during 2010. The gasification tests will be carried out on pyrolysis oil, char coal and lignin residues.
Development of lignin and charcoal feeding system to be able to feed biomass to e.g. a gasifier.
Optimising operating conditions of entrained flow gasifier in order to control the synthesis gas composition and impurities such as tar.
High pressure integrated and intensified gas cleanup and upgrading to valuable products such as synthetic fuels. A test rig is already available at ETC for catalytic synthesis. The test rig has previously been used to purify synthesis gas from black liquor gasification and converted further into methanol successfully.

EXPERIENCE AND FACILITIES

ETC is a not-for-profit research institute located in Piteå, north of Sweden. ETC is a research and development centre for renewable fuels with focus on combustion, gasification and biorefinery processes. In collaboration with private companies and public and academic institutions, we carry out research and development projects, design products, and analyse and solve problems associated with renewable energy sources. ETC has a highly competent staff and advanced experimental and computational facilities. ETC is involved in several pilot scale gasification projects and the FP7 project BioDME project (Production of DME from biomass and utilisation as fuel for transport and for industrial use).
