Biomass Technolgy Group BV

CONTRIBUTIONS TO PROJECT

Production of pyrolysis oil for further conversion in an entrained flow gasification plant.
Development of a pyrolysis oil feed system to ensure constant and stable supply of pyrolysis oil to the entrained flow oil gasifier and thus its appropriate operation.
Support in the production of syngas from pyrolysis oil in high pressure, high temperature, and entrained flow gasifier.
Conversion of syngas from entrained flow gasifier, and support in experiments and evaluation of the process.
Low temperature thermochemical conversion of biomass/residues to generate process heat and power to be reused in the biorefinery concept.
Recovery of minerals from the gasifier, and evaluation of possible uses of recovered minerals.
Internal / external communication and dissemination of project results.

EXPERIENCE AND FACILITIES

BTG Biomass Technology Group BV is a SME, which for the past 30 years has specialised in the conversion of biomass into biofuels and bio-energy. BTG's two business units, Consultancy and RTD, work in synergy and ensure innovative and commercially feasible activities. Daughter company Bioheat International BV is active in CO2 emission trading through JI and CDM. BTG started its RTD developments in the 1990’s with the development of its own thermochemical processes. In its dedicated research lab several test facilities are available. BTG fast pyrolysis developments have resulted in several patents, which are now commercially exploited by its daughter company BTG-BTL. BTG has an extensive experience and is deeply involved in European bio-energy R&D programmes.

Within FP6, the company is currently active in the Integrated Projects BIOCOUP (co-processing of upgraded bio-liquids in standard refinery units) and BIOSYENERGY (using biorefinery concepts for synthesis processes and energy production).

Within FP7, the company is involved in BIOTOP (identifying liquid biofuel research needs for Latin America), GLOBAL-BIO-PACT (harmonising global sustainability certification systems for biomass), BEE (harmonising biomass resource assessments), SUPERMETHANOL (valorising crude glycerine by reforming to methanol), BIOLIQUIDS-CHP (combusting biomass-derived liquids in adapted engines and turbines) and EMPYRO (developing and demonstrating a pyrolysis-based demo poly-generation plant).
